A collection of paintings, drawings, and photographs, with accompanying text describing the history of Dutch Jewry from the Middle Ages to 1940. Includes antisemitic caricatures. Deals also with religious, economic, and social discrimination against the Jews until the Emancipation, the arrival of the Spanish-Portuguese refugees, the arrival of Eastern European refugees in the 17th-18th centuries, conversion of Dutch Jews by Christians, the "Jewish oath" from ca. 1600-ca. 1800, and reactions to the Dreyfus Affair. Pp. 762-807, on the period 1933-40, deal with the influx of refugees and the restrictive policy of the Dutch authorities. Pp. 809-828, on the wartime period, 1940-45, deal with the growing discrimination and persecution, and aspects of Jewish religious life during this period.
