From Library JournalThe field branches of the National Archives and Records Administration in 11 major U.S. cities "preserve and make available for research" records from federal agencies outside the Washington area and house on deposit large microfilm holdings of primary research materials from the archives. This volume, largely arranged by record "agency of origin," brings together for the first time comprehensive information about the branches, their services, activities, holdings, and holdings in common; it also includes a brief history, the agency's functions, and a survey of records housed at various archives branches. Excellent notes on organization, content, and extent of records are followed by useful bibliographic notes. A valuable research resource.
