Mister Terrific lost his wife and son to a terrible accident. Her dying wish is that he keep working to educate the world. he throws his drive into this, but after one too many failed experiments decides to end his life. Then his grown son appears from a glowing field of energe and tells him never to give up. A man named Edgar Holowitz suddenly transforms from lackluster underachiever to belligerent genius. In custody, he writes equations Mister Terrific understands represent something incredibly complex. From the T-Sanctuary in the ninth dimension, Mister Terrific determines that some outside force jump started Holowitz's mind. Later, he attends a dinner for a senator who is a presidential candidate, and demonstrates a device meant to prevent earthquakes - and then, hearing a sound no one else can hear, suddenly Mister Terrific decides he must kill the senator!
