In the overcrowded world of the 21st century, the conscience of men like Allan Odegaard must decide whether life forms on newly discovered worlds are likely to be damaged by settlers from Earth. His interplanetary assignment confronts Allan with the curious green Shamblers of Misery, the amazing Butterflies of Beauty, and the unique world of Crystal where life forms are made of glass and no one ventures forth without goggles. But Big Business and greedy politicians on Earth want the Corps disbanded and will stop at nothing to achieve their ends -- even murder...
