"The Argus circulated extensively throughout Alabama and carried not only news of Alabama, but more Texas items of interest than any other newspaper outside of Texas. From the columns of this paper, the authors have abstracted deaths, implied deaths, accidents, illnesses and murders which occurred from June 1869 through June 1874. The abstracts include in most cases the full details and description as they appeared in the original articles, minus non-essential items such as hymns or lengthy praise. A surname index contains over 10,000 entries for more than 3,850 surnames."--cover page [4].
