Abstracts of estate record books beginning in 1840. They include information such as appraisements and inventories of the property of the deceased as well as division of the estates among the named heirs. Dower allotments are also determined. Slaves are frequently listed by name, sometimes giving ages and relationships, as well as value. The apprenticeship records listed in this book give the names of both white and negro. When a negro had a surname, they are listed in both the general index under their surname and in the negro index (under the given name).
