WE SHALL OVERCOME recreates with detailed accuracy and vivid urgency the strife-torn, crisis-riddled months that began with the riots touched off by the enrollment of James Meredith at the University of Mississippi and ended just under a year later with the admittance, under a display of Federal force, of two other Negro students to the University of Alabama-thus marking the accomplishment of at least token desegregation in all 50 states.
