This book presents a profile of relations between American Indians and Europeans, and later Americans, from 1524 to 1988. "As with so much of American Indian history since contact with Europeans and Americans," Professor Weeks states in his Foreword, "it can best be told from the framework of white history. Indian policy was formulated from the white perspective, rather than the reverse. And it was, and largely still is, whites who so dramatically affected the American Indians, their lives, culture, and history." This introductory volume, edited by Philip Weeks, draws on the knowledge of 17 talented professors who specialize in American Indian history and contribute essays in their fields of expertise.
