Kevin Lomax is een advocaat uit Florida die nog nooit een zaak verloren heeft. Ondanks dat zijn moeder het er niet mee eens is, verhuist hij met z'n vrouw naar New York om daar voor een grote firma te gaan werken. Zijn vrouw krijgt echter steeds meer heimwee, en begint vreemde dingen te zien. Kevin stort zich echter volledig op z'n nieuwe baan, geholpen door zijn baas John Milton.
