This book follows the history of bus services in Eastbourne, from horse-drawn stage to the present day. Concentrating on Eastbourne Buses Ltd, formally Eastbourne Borough Council Transport Department (the first municipal bus company in the world!), it follows the story right up to date with the controversial take over by Stagecoach. Author Mick Hymans, a long-time driver for Eastbourne Buses, was given unparalleled access to the firm’s considerable archive by the former directors and has used these as well as articles in the local press, council minutes, and his own experiences to write the book. This book chronologically reveals the people, the events, and the vehicles shaping the history of buses in Eastbourne over the last century.
