From the Introduction to this book: "Insofar as English records are concerned, one of the best sources giving clues to an immigrant ancestor are the wills and administrations of the Prerogative Court of (the Archbishop of) Canterbury, London (P.C.C.). This was the highest probate court in England and Wales and the one most likely to contain references relating to America, although this does not preclude the mention of American colonists in other, lesser, probate courts. Thus, a large number of entries found in this volume are taken from the P.C.C. wills and administrations. Others are taken from the smaller London probate courts and from Chancery Court proceedings, and together, these sources provide the bulk of the entries used."
