Plot

In 1975, twelve-year-old Richard befriends Napolean, a Caribbean newcomer to his Catholic school, hoping that Napolean will learn to love baseball and the Red Sox, and will win acceptance in the racially polarized Boston school. In a novel set in Boston in the 1970's, an award-winning author tackles the subject of racism in a story about an unlikely friendship between two boys from different backgrounds--united by a love of baseball.
