The Avengers, Vol. 1

Captain America hallucinates that Baron Zemo is there and attacks nothing. Thor, Giant-Man and Iron Man manage to settle him down.

At that moment, trapped between dimensions, Zemo is yelling at the Enchantress and the Executioner, wishing to return to Earth. The Enchantress uses her sorcery, and returns the three to Zemo's base in the Amazonian jungle. Once there, Zemo sends the two Asgardians to get Simon Williams, an inventor who went bankrupt because of Tony Stark. Williams returns to South America, where Zemo uses ionic rays to give him the power to defeat the Avengers, and names him Wonder Man. Wonder Man must help Zemo, because he needs an antidote injected weekly, or he will die.

Later, the Avengers are called to a bank being robbed by Zemo, Enchantress and the Executioner. During the battle, Wonder Man shows up and single-handedly defeats the evil trio. He then asks to become a member.

Later still, the Avengers get a distress call from Wonder Man saying that he has been captured by Zemo. The Avengers show up one at a time, only to be defeated by Wonder Man. However, when Zemo attempts to kill the Avengers, Wonder Man betrays Zemo, saving them, thus sacrificing his life.
