This book shows the way people are helping themselves through the crisis in Angola. It does not refer much to politics, nor does it speculate about war and peace; it begins by describing a day in the life of the Ricardo family living in a musseque, one of the shantytowns around Luanda. This day is the point of reference for five short essays on the economy, gender, development, war, democracy and civil society in Angola. It is the result of the cooperative effort of six Angolans (A. Gambit, J. Ramiro, J. da Silva, V. Vunge, V. Paulo and P. Estevao ) and the Dutch photographer and writer, B. Van der Winden .
