Stargirl arrives home exhausted from fighting Solomon Grundy, thinking about the original members of the JSA and the inspiration they have been to the heroes of the today. On October 13, 1951, the members of the JSA at the time are in a hearing before the House Un-American Activities Committee, being told that they must unmask to prove they are good Americans. Green Lantern angrily uses his ring to move all of them to the headquarters of the JSA in Gotham City, where they decide it is time to retire.A few days later, Per Degaton is revealed to be the agent that testified against the JSA, and he orders the death of Stargirl and her family. At the Dugan family breakfast table, men suddenly appear and kill all of Stargirl's family, including her baby sister Patricia. The bodies start to disappear, when Rip Hunter shows up and has Stargirl go with him, keeping her from disappearing also as Per Degaton changes the timestream. They travel to the JSA brownstone on October 28, 1951, where the others that Hunter have brought are waiting, Mr. Terrific, Sand, Hourman, Jakeem, Dr. Mid-Nite, and Atom Smasher. Most of them don't trust Atom Smasher, but they are all there to convince their inspirations to put on their costumes again or Per Degaton will do something on October30 that will brand the JSA as traitors and destroy their legacy for the future. As Rip Hunter heads back to the future to attempt to save Hawkgirl and Power Girl, the heroes he leaves behind are watched over by a figure in the shadows who seems to be focused on Stargirl.
