Plot

It is remarkable how the accuracy and truthfulness of the historical portions of the Holy Scriptures have been vindicated by all the recent discoveries in Eastern lands, and by the extraordinary decipherment of ancient monuments. These are most valuable in view of the many hostile attacks on the Bible during the last forty years.

All we are seeking to do is to call attention to the witness which is borne by ancient monuments, inscriptions, and other records, to the accuracy of the statements of historical events or geographical facts made in the Bible.

These monuments and records, as collateral evidences, often throw interesting side-lights upon the Scriptures, and should help to confute the false charges that are made against their historical accuracy.

As interpretations and applications of the facts of the Bible may vary with fresh discoveries, and as some doubt has been expressed as to the Pharaohs alluded to in Article II., the author has pleasure in quoting from a letter which was written to him on the subject by Professor Sayce, the well-known Assyrian scholar and authority, who most courteously replied to his question.
