Plot

It is Paris, 1934, when psychoanalyst Dr. Jacob Jardine strolls through a bustling market-place and glimpses Sylvie, the tantalizing embodiment of his deepest imaginings. Even though this half-child, half-temptress is the darling of bohemian Paris, and later becomes a heroine of the French Resistance, Sylvie remains haunted by the memories of her Polish childhood. And in a single moment of time, she commits an outrageous act whose irrevocable consequences will echo through the years. It is New York, 1980, and Alexei Gismondi follows a beautiful woman through Manhattan's Upper East Side. He has come from Rome to unravel the thirty-five-year-old mystery that obsesses him, and he believes Katherine Jardine - daughter of Sylvie - holds the key.
