• A Mother’s Love
• Titus 2:3-5
• Love their Husbands
• Marriage relationship comes first
– Ephesians 5:22-33
– 22 Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord.23 For the husband is head of the wife, as also Christ is head of the church; and He is the Savior of the body.24 Therefore, just as the church is subject to Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in everything.
– 33 Nevertheless let each one of you in particular so love his own wife as himself, and let the wife see that she respects her husband.
• Love their Husbands
• Marriage relationship comes first
– Colossians 3:18 Wives, submit to your own husbands, as is fitting in the Lord.
– 1 Peter 3:1-5
– 1 Wives, likewise, be submissive to your own husbands, that even if some do not obey the word, they, without a word, may be won by the conduct of their wives,
– 5 For in this manner, in former times, the holy women who trusted in God also adorned themselves, being submissive to their own husbands
• Love their Husbands
• “Love” (philos) = “friend”

– Proverbs 31:10-12 Who can find a virtuous wife? For her worth is far above rubies. 11 The heart of her husband safely trusts her; so he will have no lack of gain. 12 She does him good and not evil all the days of her life.

• Love their Children
• “Love” = also from philos
– More than the natural affection mothers have
– Wanting to be with them, being their friend
– Training them in proper behavior, supporting them in godly endeavors
• Love their Children
• Does not mean giving them all they want
– Discipline - Prov 23:13-14
– Teaching them to love Jesus Christ, instilling Christian world view
– 2 Timothy 1:3-5 I thank God, whom I serve with a pure conscience, as my forefathers did, as without ceasing I remember you in my prayers night and day,…5 when I call to remembrance the genuine faith that is in you, which dwelt first in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice, and I am persuaded is in you also.
• Christlike Character (four areas)
• Discreet (sensible, self-controlled)
– Her love comes from a sound, sober mind
– Proverbs 31: “She looks for wool and flax and works with her hands in delight. She is like merchant ships; she brings her food from afar…She considers a field and buys it; from her earnings she plants a vineyard…She is not afraid of the snow for her household, for all her household are clothed with scarlet…Strength and dignity are her clothing, and she smiles at the future. She opens her mouth in wisdom…”
• Christlike Character (four areas)
• Discreet (sensible, self-controlled)
– She thinks about how she conducts herself
– 1 Timothy 2:9 in like manner also, that the women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with propriety and moderation, not with braided hair or gold or pearls or costly clothing,

• Christlike Character (four areas)
• Chaste (pure in heart and mind)
– 1 Peter 3:1-4 Wives, likewise, be submissive to your own husbands, that even if some do not obey the word, they, without a word, may be won by the conduct of their wives,2 when they observe your chaste conduct accompanied by fear.3 Do not let your adornment be merely outward -- arranging the hair, wearing gold, or putting on fine apparel --4 rather let it be the hidden person of the heart, with the incorruptible beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is very precious in the sight of God.

• Christlike Character (four areas)
• Homemakers (workers at home)
– False teachers were dividing homes; many worldly elements today work against families
– Strong’s: “a house guard”
– Barclay: “It is the simple fact that there is no greater task, responsibility and privilege in this world than to make a home”
• Christlike Character (four areas)
• Workers at home
– Proverbs 31:27 She watches over the ways of her household, And does not eat the bread of idleness.
– 1 Timothy 5:11-14 But refuse the younger widows; for when they have begun to grow wanton against Christ, they desire to marry,12 having condemnation because they have cast off their first faith.13 And besides they learn to be idle, wandering about from house to house, and not only idle but also gossips and busybodies, saying things which they ought not.14 Therefore I desire that the younger widows marry, bear children, manage the house, give no opportunity to the adversary to speak reproachfully.
• Christlike Character (four areas)
• Good (kind, virtuous, doing good for others)
– Proverbs 31:26 She opens her mouth with wisdom, And on her tongue is the law of kindness.
– Ephesians 4:29 Let no corrupt word proceed out of your mouth, but what is good for necessary edification, that it may impart grace to the hearers.
– Galatians 6:9 And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart.
• Christlike Character (four areas)
• Obedient to their own husbands
– Respecting God’s order – masculine headship, not of authority but of responsibility and loving care
– "Where love and mutual respect rule the home there will be little problem with submission on the part of the wife…The husband is not a dictator, but he exercises his headship primarily by service. This is the same way that Jesus expressed his headship over the church." (Bruce Stewart)

• Why This is So Important
• Titus 2:5 “…that the word of God may not be blasphemed.”
– Her life and action honors God
– Those who see her in action will honor God
– She and her husband will be fulfilled
– Children will learn to have successful marriage
– Those children she raises will honor God
