William Tyndale
The true father of the English Bible is William Tyndale.

Miles Coverdale
The completion of the English Bible was reserved to Miles Coverdale.

The Geneva Bible (1560)
Geneva Bible 1560
The Geneva Bible became the Bible for the family just as the Great Bible was the Bible for the church.
It is sometimes called the “Breeches Bible.”

The King James Version (1611)
Provides a translation for public and private use which was satisfactory to all.
About 48 scholars were selected and their task was not to make a new translation but to revise the 1602 edition of the Bishops’ Bible.
Reasons For Its Supremacy
Greek and Hebrew scholar-ship had made tremendous strides during the 75 years that had elapsed since the time of Tyndale.
Literary scholarship and learning in general at this time were at a high.
The revision was made at an opportune time – a good English translation was needed.
The revision was the work of no one man or party.
