Be Imitators of God v1

Who do we Imitate?
Be imitators…
– To mimic, followers of His example, to strive to resemble, copy His moral attributes
Walk in Love v 2
2 And walk in love, as Christ also has loved us and given Himself for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet-smelling aroma.

Imitate God
1 Peter 1:14-15 as obedient children, not conforming yourselves to the former lusts, as in your ignorance;15 but as He who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct,
Imitate God’s Love
1 Jn 4:16 And we have known and believed the love that God has for us. God is love, and he who abides in love abides in God, and God in him.

Imitate God’s Love
19 We love Him because He first loved us.
21 And this commandment we have from Him: that he who loves God must love his brother also.
An Unselfish Love

Jesus set the example

Follow His example
Ephesians 5:28-29 So husbands ought to love their own wives as their own bodies; he who loves his wife loves himself.29 For no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as the Lord does the church.
A Sweet smelling aroma
Romans 12:1-2 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service.
Satan wants us to walk in lust v 3-6
3 But fornication and all uncleanness or covetousness, let it not even be named among you, as is fitting for saints;4 neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor coarse jesting, which are not fitting, but rather giving of thanks.
Put Away Sexual Immorality
1 Corinthians 7:1-2 It is good for a man not to touch a woman.2 Nevertheless, because of sexual immorality, let each man have his own wife, and let each woman have her own husband.
All Uncleanness
Romans 1:24 Therefore God also gave them up to uncleanness, in the lusts of their hearts, to dishonor their bodies among themselves,
Greed (covetousness)
Colossians 3:5 Therefore put to death your members which are on the earth: fornication, uncleanness, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry
Filthy Talk
Ephesians 5:4-6 neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor coarse jesting, which are not fitting, but rather giving of thanks.
Alternative: Giving Thanks
Philippians 4:6-7 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God;7 and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

Refuse to be Deceived
Ephesians 5:6-7 Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience.7 Therefore do not be partakers with them.
