Jesus (Henry Ian Cusick) emerges from obscurity to be baptized by John the Baptist (Scott Handy) in the desert. John recognizes he is the Christ, the Messiah, and the Savior of the world. Jesus gathers a group of 12 men to be his disciples and goes about the country of Israel proclaiming the coming of the Kingdom of God and doing miracles. When the people begin to follow Jesus, the leaders of the Jews become nervous that he may cause a revolution and bring trouble on their country from the ruling Romans. They bring him before Pontius Pilate (Stephen Russell) who sentences him to death on the cross. These things and what happened immediately thereafter were recorded by Jesus' closest disciple John (Stuart Bunce).
