Plot

In March 1962, as the cease-fire takes effect in Algeria's war of independence, extraordinary circumstances force ordinary people to question their preconceived notions of faith, trust, and control. Leaving behind a man who haunts her memories and another who fills her dreams, Anne-Marie Duchemin flees to southern France to escape the escalating terror and bloodshed in Algeria. Arriving in the village of Castelnau, she is befriended by Gabriella Madison, a young American exchange student, who encourages her to volunteer in a local orphanage, now a haven for children displaced by the war. As Anne-Marie pours herself into her newfound work, she discovers information that shakes the very foundation of her being.
