Frankie and Johnny is about a single waitress named Frankie (Michelle Pfeiffer) in a menial job, living a menial life, and Johnny (Al Pacino), a new cook at the New York restaurant where Frankie works. It's essentially a love story. Frankie is depressed and not really living up to her potential. Her biggest problem is that she doesn't have someone to love in her life. Johnny is the man who likes Frankie and asks her out. Frankie initially resists, but finally agrees (sort of). Johnny shows up at Frankie's apartment one evening as Frankie is getting ready - a very funny scene featuring Frankie's gay best friend (Nathan Lane). Frankie and Johnny are awkward together at first, and Frankie is resistant to starting a relationship. She doesn't really see Johnny as a romantic interest. But Johnny charms Frankie, showing her a great time on the date. Frankie starts to fall for Johnny. There's also a subplot about stolen money, and Frankie questions Johnny's integrity at one point.
