Two friends, Thelma (Geena Davis) and Louise (Susan Sarandon) find themselves running from the law when Thelma ends up shooting a man that is threatening to rape Louise. The friends are unsure what to do and don't have any trust for law enforcement, even the local policeman, Hal Slocumb (Harvey Keitel) who understands that the shooting was an act of self and tries to get the girls to turn themselves in before things get too far out of hand. Thelma and Louise don't fair as well with larger law enforcement agencies and once they cross jurisdictional lines, the chase is on. Along the road, the women discover how powerful their friendship really has become as they face things that before would have seemed impossible. Their only hope seems to be to run to Mexico and away from the law that is chasing them and they seem strong enough to make it as a team. Is their friendship alone enough to get them there?
