Harbour (Adrian Rawlins) has spent most of his life caring for his suicidal younger brother, Wilbur (Jamie Sives). When their father dies, the brothers inherit his bookshop. Shortly after, they meet Alice (Shirley Henderson), who cleans the local hospital and sells the books that the patients leave behind. They also meet Mary (Lisa McKinlay), Alice's daughter, who Alice struggles to care for on her small salary and their perpetual state of poverty. Harbour and Alice begin to have romantic feelings for one another, and these 4 find their lives quickly intertwined. Will their relationships with one another give them some of the answers and peace they have all been seeking for so long?
