Bettie Page (Gretchen Mol) was a 1950s sex icon, a pin-up model that unraveled America's ideas about kink, and the target of a Senate investigation. But she didn't start that way. Flashbacks show her strict upbringing, her abusive relationship with her father and the gang-rape she was victim to. Despite this disturbing childhood, Bettie grew into an ambitious adult and moved to New York City in 1949, where she took acting lessons, started modeling for photos and starred in adult films. But it was her foray into bondage and S&M that made her really famous. Her later years show an about-face, as she turns away from rated-x material to born-again Christianity.
