When Martians surround the planet in flying saucers, a confident President James Dale (Jack Nicholson) reassures the American people that we are at the beginning of a new era of peace and harmony. He couldn’t be more wrong. The Martian invaders have come for two reasons only—to kill, and to have fun doing it—and as the death rays come out, humanity quickly finds itself overpowered by the sadistic creatures with pulsing brains and ducklike war cries. It’s going to take a little old-fashioned ingenuity and the most unusual weapon of all to make the world safe again for decent, ordinary people, as well as Tom Jones (himself).
