Issue #0
Duhon-Ross (education, Albany State U., Georgia) is joined by some 30 other American scholars of education to discuss ways of encouraging all members of a school staff, from teachers and principals, to cafeteria and library staff, to change the course of the educational infrastructure in order to meet the needs of poverty stricken children. Some of the specific topics the authors examine include abuse and neglect, minorities, multiple intelligences, class size and peer mentoring, and parental impact on children's attitudes about reading. The publisher (or someone) should have done a better job of proofreading and copyediting; no one wants to read such mistakes as "except children for what they are" (from the preface). Annotation c.
