This recaps the major events leading up to the War of Kings. The Kings in question are Black Bolt and Vulcan; Black Bolt's role as the leader of the Inhumans is explored, recapping events from classic issues of Fantastic Four, Thor, and Amazing Adventures, as well as the more recent Inhumans miniseries, New Avengers: Illuminati, Decimation: Son of M, Silent War, World War Hulk and Secret Invasion. Vulcan's history is also explored, drawing on the events of X-Men: Deadly Genesis, Uncanny X-Men #475-486 and X-Men: Emperor Vulcan.
