Swamp Thing follows his senses to the place where the Green is being grievously harmed. It is where Proteus has come to consume toxic waste. Constance Sunderland dismisses her subordinates until they can bring her good news, then hosts Doctor Polygon to discuss raising the dead. Swamp Thing confronts Proteus and discovers this opponent may be dangerous to him! Abby speaks to her bartender friend Jo-Jo about Chester's recent decision to move to New Orleans and complete work on his degree. Tefé is puzzled by the Swamp Thing copy left to look after the home; it does not seem to interact with her. Sunderland employees, following Constance's instructions, fly into kill Proteus. Once the monster is dead, Swamp Thing absorbs the poisons it left behind, a horribly painful task. While Abby speaks to what she believes is her husband about how Chester's departure has saddened her. The simulacrum tells her "don't cry" and she replies that he always knows what to say... They have sex. Elsewhere, the real Swamp Thing cannot re-enter the Green! Rather than force his way in, he begins to trudge home. But then feels... ill. And Ben Barron reports an "unfit mother" - Abby - to child protective services!

A fateful confrontation with Proteus leads to a drastic physical change for Swamp Thing. And is there a new Swamp Thing living in the bayou? Part 2 of 2.
