Many years ago a member of the Order of St. Dumas set free a woman who gave her eggs for the next Azrael to be hatched in a tube.
In the present, Batman and Oracle got their hands on a book which was found at the murder scene of the collector Mr. Gordius. Contents of the book indicates that this woman who fled from the Order of St. Dumas might be the biological mother of Jean-Paul Valley. Despite needing him in Gotham City, Batman makes the travel arrangements for Jean-Paul Valley to find out more about his mother.
Meanwhile, Lilhy is searching for the book she left at Gordius' house. After having her new Azrael interrogate a policeman, she quickly deduces that the book found its way to Batman. She decides to follow Jean-Paul who after shortly visiting Dr. Leslie Thompkins is making his way to the airport. She orders the new Azrael to hide on the plane.
During the flight, the private jet's co-pilot stumbles over Azrael who reacts violently and kills both him and the pilot as well. He does not attack Jean-Paul though who is then forced to bring the plane down and make an emergency landing in the desert. Jean-Paul gets out of the crashed plane alive and is approached by a person he knows all too well ...
