The Justice Society Returns! - 7: Fair Play

Hitler's influence is waning, and that means the effect of his artifact, the Spear of Destiny, is waning as well. It is possible for mystical heroes to enter Dresden without being corrupted by the Spear's power, which is good, because Stalker sent a disciple there. As Mister Terrific struggles to save civilians caught in the bombing, Flash takes on the disciple. But this disciple can absorb and redirect energy, especially the kinetic energy of Flash's superspeed punches! Flash next tries bombs, but these are equally ineffective. Mister Terrific tries to help the bombing victims, making sure resources are distributed fairly, when Nazi soldiers capture him. But he realizes one of them is actually Americommando. Americommando kills the real Nazi, and explains that there are no munitions plants in Dresden. Flash, meanwhile, deals with the disciple the only way he can: he sets his helmet to vibrate long enough to pass through the disciple's head, scrambling his thoughts. That buys him enough time to get the villain away from the city where, no longer able to control his power, he explodes! Mister Terrific has Flash take him to the military headquarters. He's enraged that they are bombing Dresden "just to make a point". The general in charge doesn't like it either, but it's about taking potential soldiers away from the Nazi forces. Bitter, Mister Terrific tears the "Fair Play" logo from his suit; the world isn't fair and now he realizes it. But Flash counters: maybe he can be an example. Slowly, Mister Terrific picks up his symbol. That's when Doctor Occult whisks them through a portal; Stalker's plans proceed...
