The Fantastic Four take care of the immediate threat of Maximus the Mad, but are unable to prevent him from creating a negative zone around the Great Sanctuary to keep humans away. When they return to New York, they find the sky filled with flame and people in a panic. The Silver Surfer approaches, and behind him one will always find Galactus.
