The Surfer tracks down the Elders, and trades the sixth soul gem for Mantis and Shalla-Bal. However, the Grandmaster sends the women away, and an explosion occurs before the Surfer can catch up. He saves Shalla-Bal, but Mantis seems lost. Furious, he pursues the Elders after Galactus. They have mounted an attack that was succeeding until the Surfer interferes, leaving Galactus free and furious.
