Secret War

Just before their defeat, the heroes manage to pull off a victory due to the intervention of Angelina Jolie look alike Daisy Louise Johnson. She has seismic powers, which she uses to shut down the villainess the heroes were facing. After this, it is revealed that a year ago Fury used his recruits to assassinate the leader of Latveria, wiping their memories afterwards to keep them from living with the knowledge and guilt of what they'd done. Fury came clean before disappearing into the underground, knowing he'd never recover politically from this move.
