How the Whale Became
A century ago, an obscure writer in British-controlled India named Rudyard Kipling is approached by the mysterious Mr. Locke. Wanting to patron the writer's patriotic voice in favor of the British Empire, Locke makes arrangements that cause Kipling to become the voice of his time. But a meeting with Samuel Clemens leads Kipling to suspect Locke's motives as well as the actions he'll undertake to achieve his aims.
Defiance has a price, however. Refusing to bow to Locke's requests any longer, he takes up a literary war against Imperialism, and the secret cabal that had made use of his talent... until the personal tragedies his family faces grow too great.
