In James Franco’s darkly satiric directorial debut, Franco,(Spider-Man, Tristan & Isolde, Annapolis, TV’s “Freaks and Geeks”) stars as a would-be novelist. It’s supposed to be his ticket to glory, away from the job he hates and his mundane home life, but the whole thing is a complete disaster. Fed up, he rents an apartment to try to get some time alone… only to discover that a talking, Hawaiian-shirt clad gorilla is living in his midst. Despite the added distraction of lice, “gorilla wet willies” and flying excrement, The Ape pushes Harry to fulfill his dreams; but perhaps at the cost of his sanity. Sharply surreal and wickedly funny, The Ape showcases the ever-expanding talent of a quickly rising star.
