Frannie and her son have escaped...she knows it is only a matter of time before he finds them...
She had once doubted that her plan would work, but Frannie Benedetto (Mary Stuart Masterson, Fried Green Tomatoes, Bed of Roses) and her nine-year-old son, Robert, now have new names, a new home and a safer life.
They're not part of any witness protection program; in fact, they're not hiding from the criminal world at all. But they are hiding from the police, specifically from Detective Bobby Benedetto (Anthony Lapaglia, Summer of Sam, The Client) - Frannie's husband and Robert's father.
Although the transition is rough, she and Robert quickly adapt to a new community selected for them by Patty Bancroft, an advocate for women who are mistreated by their husbands. A young boy named Bennie befriends Robert, easing his adjustment into this new world. Frannie finds a special female friend in Cindy Roerbacker, and with the help of Robert's handsome school advisor, Mike Riordan, she learns what life can be like with a kind and gentle man.
Life goes well until Robert lets his guard down. Unanswered questions about his father become more than he can bear and he telephones his dad in search of the truth. Soon, Bobby Benedetto is on the way to find his family, determined to punish his wife and to reclaim his son.
