Based on the memoir of star François Bégaudeau, Laurent Cantet's Entre les Murs is a look at the story of an innercity literature teacher living and working in Paris. The film focuses on the socioeconomic and racial issues of the city, while looking at the travails of being a new teacher in an education system that is as inattentive as most of the world’s urban school districts. From the moment the film begins, we see both teachers and students talk about their classroom problems. Teachers complain about their rosters for the year, students complain about homework and realism is key in telling their stories.
