DUSTY'S TRAIL was producer Sherwood Schwartz's little-seen follow-up to his popular 1960s television sitcom GILLIGAN'S ISLAND. Bob Denver reprised that series' bumbling protagonist with the equally inept Dusty, an assistant stagecoach driver in the Wild Wild West whose incompetence results in his team being separated from the rest of the wagon train. Together with main driver Callahan (Forrest Tucker), wealthy aristocrats Mr. and Mrs. Brookhaven (Ivor Francis and Lynn Wood), sultry saloon dancer Lulu (Jeannine Riley), wholesome schoolmarm Betsy (Lori Saunders), and all-around everyman Andy (Bill Cort)--sound familiar?--Dusty must figure out a way to get the wagon back on trail to California. This collection offers 17 of the 26 episodes from the western comedy series' first and only season.

In 1964 Sherwood Schwartz created one of televisions best loved shows Gilligan's Island. In 1967 it ended abruptly after three years on CBS. Then in 1973 six years after the end of Gilligan's Island Sherwood Schwartz and his son Elroy Schwartz created Dusty's Trail. Dusty's Trail is about a wagon train on its way to California that gets lost from the other wagons. The wagon master Mr Callahan and Dusty were trying to get there wagon to California. Dusty was a bumbling and a klutz but was sweet and lovable. He was a little like Gilligan. Mr Callahan was big and powerful but nice and gentle, like Skipper. The others on the wagon were the Brookhavens. They were rich and well to do, just like the Howells. Also on board were a smart engineer named Andy, a lovely saloon girl named Lulu, and a gentle nice and kind teacher named Betsy.

At the same time as Dusty's Trail was on, Sherwood Schwartz was also doing the Brady Bunch. A lot of the writers and directors of Dusty's Trail were also writers on Gilligan's Island and The Brady Bunch. The 1973-1974 season was the first and last season of Dusty's Trail, and the last of five seasons of the Brady Bunch. People accused Sherwood Schwartz of coping Gilligan's Island completely, but I find a some what slight difference between the two shows.

In 1979 three episodes from Dusty's Trail were edited together to make the theatrical movie The Wackiest Wagon Train In The West.
