The classic 1973 CBS television special Dr. Seuss on the Loose combined Green Eggs and Ham, The Zax, and The Sneetches into a 25-minute animated program that delighted a generation of children. This remastered DVD features bright, saturated colors; a nice clear sound; and a format that holds true to the original special. In Green Eggs and Ham, Sam-I-am relentlessly pesters an unwilling friend to at least try a taste of green eggs and ham in the hopes that he may like them. The Zax features two fellows whose extreme stubbornness inhibits any forward motion, and The Sneetches takes a look at how the star-bellied Sneetches and their plain-bellied counterparts learn an expensive lesson about the folly of judging others based solely on appearance. Dr. Seuss's timeless themes of acceptance and the willingness to try new things ring just as true today as they did in the 1970s, when these specials aired, and the 1960s, when Theodor Geisel (a.k.a. Dr. Seuss) originally penned the stories. Since Geisel was the coproducer and wrote the teleplay and lyrics, the prose, animation, and fun vocal songs represent his own vision of the worlds of Sam-I-am, the Zax, and the Sneetches. But most important of all is the fact that children young and old, as well as their parents and grandparents, will thoroughly enjoy this Dr. Seuss special.
