Greta (Hilary Duff) a suicidal waitress falls in love with the cook. Julie (Evan Ross) at the restaurant where they work in a behind the times, boring town. As the forbidden interracial romance becomes more intense over the summer Greta’s grandparents (Ellen Burstyn and Michael Murphy) begin to have concerns about Ross’ criminal record. How can the two overcome the social taboos as well as the objections of Greta’s old fashioned grandparents? Will Julie’s checkered criminal past get the best of him and his ambitions?
