Bill Django (Jeff Bridges) once travelled around the country, studying New Age movements and recruiting people into what he called the New Earth Army. Years later Bob Wilton (Ewan McGregor), a reporter, travels to Kuwait to investigate the Iraq War when his wife leaves him. There he happens upon a man named Lyn Cassady (George Clooney), who happens to be one of Django's two best recruits along with Larry Hooper (Kevin Spacey). Bob learns all about the New Earth Army and the abilities that were developed in its members by Django when he and Lyn go on a mission together. Eventually they find themselves in the clutches of Hooper, who went to the 'dark side' of the powers of New Earth Army. Django is also in his clutches and the trio of Lyn, Bob, and Django eventually break free with the intention of telling the world their story.
