Joel Samson, a young boy of 13, is summoned to a sprawling and decaying plantation house to meet the father he has not seen for nine years. On his arrival, he meets Amy Skully, the mistress of the house, and Randolph, her debauched and eccentric cousin. His father is nowhere in sight. Joel later discovers the man lying paralyzed in the attic of the crumbling mansion whereupon he begins to unravel the mysterious secrets that lie within the house.
Other Voices Other Rooms has been noted by Truman Capote as a semi-autobiographical reflection of the renowned author's coming of age experience.
