Sweet Jane

Three years after it first hit the film-festival circuit, Sweet Jane brings its gritty tale of doomed friendship to wider release. Samantha Mathis stars as Jane, a stripper who discovers she's HIV-positive after a nearly fatal heroin binge. Joseph Gordon-Levitt (the longhaired kid from Third Rock From the Sun) is Tony, the dying 15-year-old who follows her out of the hospital and onto the streets of Los Angeles in a desperate bid for affection.
