A Developmental Approach to Deaf Children's Literacy
The toolkit includes the appendices to Starting with Assessment a Developmental Approach to Deaf Children's Literacy, by Martha M.French. Starting with Assessment describes a model for assessing deaf children's development in the classroom. Chapter 1 lays the groundwork by describing theories of learning and offering principles to guide assessment; subsequent chapters each contribute to the design of a comprehensive assessment program based on those theories and principles. Specific assessment "tools"mentioned throughout the chapters have been bound as these separate appendices so that they may be more easily copied if readers wish to do so . The final appendix (Appendix G) also includes guidelines for teaching a balanced reading and writing program at different levels of development.
