Genre

  • Deaf Sports

Subject

  • Swimming

Plot

The purpose of Swim Ireland's High Performance Programme is to provide the structures and the programmes to allow our swimmers to achieve success at European, World and Olympic levels. The clear message coming from the Olympic Council of Ireland and the Irish Sports Council is that success is defined in terms of European,World and Olympic Finals and medals. in order to achieve this type of success , the Irish Sports Council through its High Performance unit channels investment directly to sport and individuals likely to be competing at the Olympic and Paralympic Games. Swimming has been chosen as one of those focus sports and we would hope that in the coming years , particularly now that we have a Full-time National Team Head Coach as well as the National Performance Centre in Limerick and proposed Centre at the National Aquatic Centre in place, to develop a comprehensive structure which contains clear pathways and programmes for high performance swimming in this country. We believe that we have the talented swimmers, coaches and support staff and we now need to put in place a programme which will allow our swimmers to reach not just top levels of swimming in this country, which in itself is a very fine achievement, but indeed to reach top levels in world swimming.
