Plot

This book is for parents faced with the problem.Boarding schools ,hospitals and adoption are some of the causes of separation dealt with in an effort to help parents understand the difficulties faced by their children in strange surroundings.

Peter Rowlands stresses the need for different situations being treated individually in terms of what is liable to affect the child, and what choices are open to the parent , but he shows that there is underlying theme connecting them. This is the principle that premature separation of a young child from its mother can have serious lasting effects. A number of common situations are analysed and some practical guidelines based on a study of case histories are offered, with the intention not criticizing, but of helping.

This subject was never more important than today when the concept of the family as an enduring unit is being increasingly questioned.
