A collection of writings by celebrated authors aimed at focusing on (1) the basic categories of the existential attitude (such as dread, alienation, objectification, and freedom); thus (2) suggesting the spectrum from humanistic through theistic existentialism, both in the literature and in the essays; and (3) presenting statements characteristic yet accessible by the major spokesmen of existentialism).
