In this sequel to Saturday Night Fever, the protagonist (Tony Manero) has left the discotheques of Brooklyn to pursue his dreams and dance on Broadway. He is constantly rejected at auditions and his girlfriend (Jackie) gets him an audition for a show she is trying out for. While trying out, he meets the star of the show, (Laura) who is an accomplished dancer and is immediately attracted to her. In Tony’s eyes Laura represents success, wealth, class and importance; all the things Tony wants for himself. They go on a date and while Tony wishes to continue the relationship, Laura doesn’t. She is focused on stardom and her career and doesn’t want to be in a relationship. Tony finally gets “the call” and is selected as a dancer for the show. Jackie is also selected. She begins to suspect Tony’s true feelings and is hurt. Rehearsals begin and after Laura’s partner fails to live up to the producer’s expectations, Tony is given a starring role. The show, “Satan’s Alley” opens and after a successful performance, where Tony steals the show, he realizes he made a mistake with Jackie. They leave the theater together leaving Laura crushed and defeated.
